What is high potential and gifted education?
Physical Domain
Students with high potential in the physical domain are supported through a range of structured programs that develop skill, performance, teamwork and leadership. A key feature of this domain is the Orara Student Athlete Academy, which provides targeted training, coaching and competition opportunities for students demonstrating athletic potential. Students also access representative pathways and inter-school competitions that promote resilience, commitment and excellence.
Social and Emotional Doman
The social and emotional domain focuses on wellbeing, leadership and collaboration. HPGE students participate in mentoring, leadership opportunities and team-based challenges that strengthen emotional intelligence, communication skills and self-regulation. These experiences support students to build positive relationships and contribute meaningfully to the school and wider community.
Intellectual Domain
Orara High School offers enriched and extension learning experiences that challenge students intellectually and promote deep thinking. HPGE students engage in differentiated learning within core subjects, accelerated pathways where appropriate, and inquiry-based learning opportunities that foster curiosity, problem-solving and a strong love of learning.
Creative Domain
Students with creative potential are provided with opportunities to explore and extend their talents through the arts, performance and design. HPGE programs encourage creative risk-taking, collaboration and innovation through authentic performance, exhibition and competition opportunities.
Accessing HPGE Opportunities
All HPGE enrichment, extension and co-curricular opportunities are regularly advertised to students through daily Sentral notices.
Through a strong commitment to excellence, inclusion and student wellbeing, Orara High School’s HPGE program ensures students are supported to grow, achieve and succeed across all domains of potential.
HPGE Enrichment and Extension Opportunities
At Orara High School, we acknowledge that all students across all classes demonstrate high potential and giftedness in a variety of areas. Our teaching and learning programs are designed to recognise, nurture, and extend each student’s strengths within the classroom.
In addition, Orara High School offers specialised HPGE classes for students through an application process, providing enriched and targeted learning opportunities for those requiring further extension.
The Year 7 and 8 HPGE Physical class supports students with high potential in physical performance by providing an enriched and challenging learning environment. The program focuses on developing advanced movement skills, strength and conditioning foundations, coordination, agility, and sport-specific techniques, while fostering confidence, resilience, and teamwork. Students engage in targeted coaching, performance analysis, and goal-setting to extend their abilities beyond the core curriculum. Through a balance of practical application and reflective learning, the class nurtures emerging athletes, promotes lifelong physical wellbeing, and develops leadership skills that support success both in and beyond the classroom.
The Year 7 and 8 HPGE Critical and Creative class is designed to extend students with high potential in thinking, problem-solving, and creative expression. This enriched program challenges students to question, analyse, and innovate through engaging, future-focused learning experiences that go beyond the core curriculum. Students develop advanced skills in critical thinking, creative reasoning, collaboration, and communication through inquiry-based projects, real-world problem solving, and creative challenges. The class encourages curiosity, intellectual risk-taking, and reflective practice, empowering students to become confident, independent learners who can think deeply, adapt creatively, and contribute meaningfully across all learning areas.
