A message from the principal

Dear Orara Families,

I hope everyone within the Orara High School community has had a happy and safe winter break. Since we were last together there have been a few challenging developments across our state in relation to COVID-19. In metropolitan areas students will have to once again resume learning through online platforms. Fortunately for us here in Coffs Harbour all students will be able to return to school as planned on Tuesday 13th July. Please rest assured that our staff will do everything possible to follow the most up to date health advice at all times in order to keep everyone safe.

Perhaps the most obvious change is in relation to the wearing of masks. Students who come to school by bus will be required to wear a mask. All students and staff are asked to wear masks when at school when indoors. Other COVID-safe practices such as hand hygiene and surface cleaning will also be tightened from this week. Students will be given clear instructions about all COVID-safe expectations at a special Zoom assembly on Tuesday morning. As with all of our shared expectations it is very important that everyone realises how important their individual actions are if we are to have a happy and safe school community.

One other unfortunate change is that non-essential visitors are not permitted to enter the school under the current guidelines. Parents are asked not to come on site though exceptions can be made for specific essential meetings. All adults who do enter the school - including staff - must now register through the QR code and other procedures as directed at our front office.

We look forward to communicating with you if guidelines continue to change. As always please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything you would like clarified at any time.

I encourage you to visit the Department’s Advice for families outside Greater Sydney website for more detailed information.

Please download the Parent app to keep up to date as quickly and efficiently as possible. The app is free and available now for iOS and Android users.

Regards,

Malcolm McFarlane,

Principal
