Higher School Certificate Course Handbook 2024-2025

Dear Parents and Carers of Year 10 Students,

As your student progresses through their educational journey, it is crucial to support them in making informed decisions regarding their HSC (Higher School Certificate) course selection.  To facilitate this process, we have prepared the Higher School Certificate Course Handbook 2024-2025, which will be distributed to students in hard copy and emailed to you as a soft copy and in this regard, please contact the school if you need to update your email address.

The Higher School Certificate Course Handbook 2024-2025 contains essential information about the courses offered at Orara High School.  We strongly recommend that you take the time to review this handbook together with your student to familiarise yourself with the requirements and expectations of each course which will help you assist your student to make informed decisions about their education moving forward.

Important Information

  • The HSC Subject Selection Evening will be held on Thursday, 27 July 2023 starting from 4:30pm. This event is of great importance as it provides a valuable opportunity for you and your student to receive detailed information about the courses available at our school, as well as those offered through TAFE (TVET).
  • Attending this evening is critical, as you will be provided with a login and password for your student to select their courses.  Parents/carers and students who attend this event and receive this important information will have first preference in course selection.
  • Please note that certain courses tend to fill up quickly.
  • Parents/carers and students who are unable to attend the evening will receive their login and password once the initial round of course selections has been processed.
  • As the Principal, I will be present at the event and available to address any questions you may have.  Additionally, our Deputy Principals, Head Teachers, Careers Advisor and Year Advisors will be present to discuss courses and answer any queries you may have.  We will also have information available on School Based Traineeships, and a representative from TAFE will join us to provide details about TVET courses.

We are looking forward to seeing you at this important evening and working together to ensure your student’s HSC years are successful.  If you have any queries in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Yours Sincerely

Michelle Elliott
