Healthy eating supports learning and positive behaviours at school
29 Mar 2021
Currently in PDHPE health lessons students are doing important learning around nutrition and good dietary habits. Consequently, we thought it would be a good opportunity to share with our Orara families some information to help with supporting children to make good food choices and increase their healthy eating habits.
Health Direct reports the following about healthy eating for children:
Healthy eating is essential for your child's good health, growth and development. Healthy eating in childhood means they will have less chance of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and some cancers. It will also mean they feel better, look better and enjoy life more.

Like an expensive car, your brain functions best when it gets only premium fuel. Eating high-quality foods that contain lots of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants nourishes the brain and protects it from oxidative stress — the “waste” (free radicals) produced when the body uses oxygen, which can damage cells.

Healthy eating habits, including good food and beverage choices and appropriate frequency and timing of eating, are really important to encourage and support so that they can maximise their learning capacity and regulate their emotions and behaviours effectively.
Yours in health,
