Year 12

Year 12 are progressing further into the school year and I encourage students to do some careers research (Universities, TAFE, smart and skilled programs, apprenticeships etc.) in between study sessions. The School’s Careers website www.orarahighcareers.com has excellent features to research these areas.

Applying to University

The application process for university entry for 2022 opens early this year on Thursday 12th April and closes Friday 30th September. Pupils at this stage should be doing research regarding Courses and Universities to expand their options.

University applications are overseen by different organisations depending upon the location of the University. For NSW Universities UAC http://www.uac.edu.au/ is the governing body and QTAC http://www.qtac.edu.au/ for Queensland based Universities. Most courses require students to be eligible for an ATAR as part of their senior school studies. Applications must be submitted online.  Approximate cost to apply is approximately $70 per person. UAC and QTAC course hard copy guides will be available to students soon. Please also refer to websites as information can change from the date of publication.

CSU Explore Day

On Tuesday 8th March we had 11 students travel down to the Charles Sturt University Port Macquarie campus. Students were involved in sessions to find out about course areas they were interested in. They also had the chance to tour the campus and get information regarding on campus accommodation. See photo of Danielle, Deanna and Darhsleen enjoying the CSU Explore Day.

UNE Open day excursion is on next term in May (dates TBC)

Should you have any questions about any career related aspect for your son / daughter, please feel free to contact me on 02 6652 1077. Additional information can also be obtained from the School Careers Website www.orarahighcareers.com  with Parents able to access lots of information without the need to register.

Year 11

Year 11 are no longer allowed any more subject changes, with their subjects being finalised. Pupils should now be concentrating on working hard and maximising their results. This will set them up for stronger results in Year 12. Also many Universities will consider Year 11 results when deciding on Early Entry applications.

Year 10

Work experience

All students in Year 10 are being asked to organise their work experience now. Pupils need to submit their paperwork for the first week (9th – 13th May) by the end of this Term. Paperwork for the second week (21st – 25th November) is due the end of Term 2. Work experience is a very important part of a student’s time at school. They may decide to pursue a career seriously or even get offered part-time or full-time employment. Parents please support this program by ensuring that your child is actively organising their work experience as soon as possible.
