Formally introducing our Captains and Vice Captains for 2024

Introducing..........

Taylor Moppett - Girls Captain

Interests and hobbies outside of school?

I am a very outdoorsy person and love spending time playing sports of any kind, however my passion lies with horse riding. I am a passionate equestrian who loves to compete on weekends with my coach's horse Billy. When I am not outside playing sports or riding, I love to settle down and read a book or two.

What do you enjoy the most about being a student of Orara High School?

The one thing I love about being a student at Orara is the amazing opportunities the school sets up for its students. In just Year 11 alone I have participated in many university talks, carnivals, a colour run and so much more. Orara takes care of its students which makes coming to school fun and enjoyable.

What do you hope to achieve in your final year of school?

With my final year at Orara slowly approaching I hope to achieve many great things that will impact the school for future years to come, obviously this includes many fundraisers and small projects around the school however I also want to focus on encouraging good attendance for the younger years and to improve our inclusion as a whole school, with this I will be looking forward to setting up many teacher vs student and year vs year games.

What are your plans after finishing school?

After I graduate I plan on taking a gap year so I can continue to work and compete with Billy, however unlike my peers who will be going to university I will set my sights on joining the New South Wales Police Force. From when I was younger I always wanted to be amongst my community protecting and making an impact for the greater good, so I thought no better way to do that then to join the police force.

Cohen Gorza-Jones - Boys Captain

Interests and hobbies outside of school?

My long term goal is to become a professional footballer overseas in the near future. With this highly wanted dream by many, it encourages me to have a life that allows me to become better every single day. In doing so, I train 3-4 times per day to pursue my dreams in football.

What do you enjoy the most about being a student of Orara High School?

The love I have for Orara extends beyond just the school grounds. The connection you make with your teachers and classmates, you couldn’t possibly get anywhere else. Your teachers feel more like friends as well as your teachers. They listen to you and help you with more than just what they're paid for.

What do you hope to achieve in your final year of school?

As I said in my speech, my goal is to spark change in how we view people and things. I want to try and eliminate closed off judgements in order for people to be able to make mistakes and be able to learn from them without having to deal with long driven judgment and consequences.

What are your plans after finishing school?

My plan after my schooling years is to earn a scholarship over to America to begin my professional football journey playing varsity level football while studying sports psychology for 4 years. After that, my plan is to move to the higher ranks in professional football wherever that takes me. Hopefully one day playing in the world cup for my country, Australia.

Interests and hobbies outside of school?

When I'm not in the classroom surrounded by my peers, I love spending any free time that's not spent studying or working, by exercising at my local gym, filling my mind with countless words from my favorite books, and swimming in the coastal waters, while spending evenings with my friends in the sun. These are just a few of the countless, amazing things to which I find make up the person I am proud to be today.

What do you enjoy the most about being a student of Orara High School?

Orara High School offers endless opportunities, experiences, and abilities which accommodates anyone and everyone who wishes to be a part of this incredible community. Being a student at Orara High School has been a beneficial experience, which has helped me in striving to achieve my goals and aspirations, and fulfill the ability to take on this current leadership position. If I had to give credit to just one aspect of this school, it would be the way in which everyone is able to collaborate, communicate, and work together to create each day an even better one than the day before. Additionally,  the family life, and school spirit that comes with being within this community.

What do you hope to achieve in your final year of school?

During my final year of schooling, I wish to further uplift our school community, be an inspiration and a voice for my peers, strive to succeed in all areas of my efforts in achievement, succeed in running various fundraisers, and be a great leader for Orara High School.

What are your plans after finishing school?

After Year 12, I wish to enter university through a scholarship or alternatively an early entry scheme studying psychology and education. Before university however,  I am aiming to take a gap year to spend some time working and traveling Australia.
